FAQs
Q:  What is the NYAA Programme?
A: The NYAA is an exciting self-development programme available to all young people in Singapore, equipping them with life skills to make a difference to themselves, their communities and the world.  It is part of an international Award Programme operating in more than 130 countries worldwide under various titles.
Q:  I am interested in joining the NYAA Award Programme. What should I do?
A: You can join the NYAA Programme by following these steps:
  1. Contact your school’s designated NYAA Award Coordinator or the NYAA Council and ask for an enrolment form. Alternatively, you can also download an enrolment form from the NYAA website.
  2. Select your activities and fill in and return the form to your teacher in charge.
  3. Pay the registration fee - $7 for the Bronze level, $12 for the Silver level and $17 for the Gold level. (Kindly note that the fee is only a nominal sum o indicate your commitment in participating in the NYAA Award Programme.
  4. A Record book and an Award Diary will be issued to you.
  5. 5. Find an instructor for each of your chosen activities and work out a schedule.
  6. Begin your activities and record your progress in your Award Diary. Assessors will usually be appointed automatically by your instructors. In most cases, the instructors also act as assessors.
  7. When you have finished the programme, make sure your Record book is completed and signed by the assessors.
  8. Send your completed Record Book and Award Diary to your teacher-in-charge/NYAA Co-ordinator who will then submit it to the NYAA Council for endorsement. Upon approval, you will then be notified of when you will receive your certificate and badge.
Q: How long does it take?
A: You can proceed at your own pace and take as long as you like provided you finish the NYAA Programme before your 25th birthday. This limit can be extended in case of accident, illness or other unavoidable circumstances. The minimum permissible period for completing the NYAA Award is 6 months for Bronze, 12 months for Silver and 18 months for Gold. However, most NYAA Award participants prefer to take about twice as long because this reduces their weekly load. Apart from the occasional weekend and possibly an evening class or two, most NYAA Award participants spend between one and two hours on the Award per week, depending on the activity and their initial proficiency.
Q:

What if I am handicapped?

A: Not a problem. You can still benefit from the NYAA Award Programme because the conditions can be modified to accommodate your disability. However, there are no soft options and lowering of standards.
Q:

How does an Award help me?

A: The NYAA Award is an International Award for Achievement, which is known worldwide. More than 130 countries operate the Award Programme under different titles. It helps in three ways:
  1. It helps you discover interests and talents you never knew you had.
  2. It gives you a certificate and a badge as a record of your achievements.
  3. It is supported by both the Government and industry.
Q: Must I belong to a group or an organization to be able to join the NYAA Programme?
A: No, if you don’t belong to a group or an organization, you can still participate in the NYAA Award Programme as an independent candidate through the NYAA Council. However, many participants join through a group or an organization because it is more convenient and more fun.
Q: How can I find a group or an organization?
A: The NYAA Programme operates through many organizations such as uniformed groups, youth organizations, sports clubs, schools and educational institutions. There is almost certainly a group or organization near you.
Q: Can I continue to do the same activity for a higher level?
A: Yes, you can. However, we encourage you to try new things to broaden your horizons and development.
Q: What should I do if I need to disrupt for National Service? (For Males Only)
A:  The activities that you have undertaken before entering National Service are taken into account and recorded in the Diary and Record Book. You can continue at any time that you wish. The NYAA Award Programme allows you to proceed at your own pace just as long as you finish it before your 25th birthday.
Q: If I am under 14 years old, can I enroll in the NYAA Programme?
A: You are most welcome to participate in the NYAA Programme. However, you cannot credit your activities for the Award. The minimum age for entry is 14 years old.
Q: Can I change the activities after I have signed up for the Programme?
A: Yes. We are quite flexible in terms of your choice of activities but we encourage you to stick to one activity at each level.
